9203 United Kingdom
The United Kingdom property was a well loved family home. It showed the story of a family spanning decades. It came with hundreds of pinholes that once held up posters in the boy's bright blue room, crayons wedged behind the mantle, and a big light post in the backyard for hosting family barbecues. It raised kids and grandkids. But it was time for a facelift.
We converted one large bedroom back into the original two bedrooms it once was, knocked down an outdated ponywall breaking up the entrance and removed all the old flooring. The flooring was gruelling. Thirty year old adhesive is no joke. Luckily, we were able to keep the rest of the layout and other essentials like cabinets and windows in place.
The first priority was updating the exterior. We went with a classic but inviting white to brighten up it's curb appeal. The next project tackled was updating the two dingy bathrooms. We chose to install a combination of trendy and timeless tile to appeal to the masses. The tub in the master bathroom was removed and we put in a spa shower with a waterfall head to provide a truly elevated experience. The kitchen cabinets were given a modern twist with a rich navy blue color on the bottom, accompanied by white cabinets on top to keep the kitchen bright. Getting the floors installed was the real show-stopper. We went with a light hardwood with warm undertones to give it a modern but warm feeling throughout. The walls were painted our go-to color: White Dove by Benjamin Moore. The room sizes quadrupled visually when transformed from dark and dingy to bright and airy.
The way we imagined the new owners loving this house was what inspired us to design it the way we did. We envisioned a modern millennial couple or new family moving in and utilizing the open-concept space to it's fullest. Right when you walk in the door, you're greeted by a rich stone fireplace spanning up the length of the wall to the vaulted ceiling, with a straight shot view of the backyard through the french doors abutting the dining nook. The kitchen opens into the living space for ease of entertainment. The primary bedroom is separate from the other bedrooms with beautiful large windows looking onto a mature cottonwood tree. The primary bathroom was designed to feel like an oasis within your own home, while the guest bathroom could be your space to soak in the bath and relax. All of this sits on a large lot, true to South Austin style - perfect for entertaining your friends and family.
This house was full of lessons and triumphs. We got dirty, problem solved like never before, and poured our hearts and souls into its transformation. We went over every inch of the house with our own eyes and hands and left no detail forgotten. With out a doubt, we can now say we know how to renovate an entire property. We also now know to outsource painting. Phew. We can agree on one thing: from start to finish, we wouldn't trade the experience for the world.
And without further adeiu, here's the masterpiece:
